RESNET 2-DAY Brief Course Overview
Course Details/AgendaThis 2-day course will prepare you for the RESNET HESP Certification Exam. This course covers all the foundational building energy and construction science to begin a career as a home energy professional. A Level 1 - Home Energy Survey Professional (HESP) is qualified to perform a walk-through assessment of the general energy performance problems and make basic recommendations for improvements or further analysis.
- Minimum Home Energy Survey inspected features and report requirements,
- Basics of heat transfer concepts, Building performance testing and Air distribution leakage
- Calculating gross and net areas
- Definitions, Energy terminology and Energy Units
- Basic Combustion Appliance concerns
- Basics of envelope leakage, thermal bypass and thermal bridging
- Determining envelope insulation, quality and recommended levels by climate zone
- Determining HVAC, appliance and window/door efficiencies
- Determining shading and building orientation characteristics
- Determining thermal boundaries
- The House as a System - Basics of measure interaction, expected life and bundling for optimal performance
- HET Institute's Home Energy Report Software
At the end of the course, students will be ready to sit for the RESNET Home Energy Survey Professional (HESP) Certification Exam
RESNET 3-Day Brief course Overview
Course Details/AgendaAdd a 3rd day to the Level 1-HESP Certification Course and attain Level 2- Diagnostic HESP Certification. If your initial goal is to offer more in-depth home performance surveys, you will need this third day covering the nuts and bolts of Building Pressurization Testing. In addition to the Level 1 essentials, students will learn how to determine the effective leakage area and air exchange rate of a building using a blower door, how to calculate duct leakage utilizing a duct blaster and how to utilize HET Institute's Diagnostic Home Energy Report Software.
The combined 3-day course covers the all the HESP energy and building science fundamentals plus the pertinent envelope testing requirements contained in Chapter 3 and Appendix A of the RESNET National Energy Rating Technical Standards, ASHRAE Standard 119 Section 5.1 and the application of Standard 152 for testing of ducted distribution systems.

BPI Training Brief Course Overview
Course Details/AgendaThis 4 day course consists of the 3-day Diagnostic HESP Training PLUS a 4th day to learn BPI Building Evaluation Standards, heat loss and savings calculations, work scope requirements and combustion appliance zone (CAZ) testing. At day's end, the BPI Building Analyst (BA) written exam will be administered. The only remaining step is to schedule and pass a one-on-one BPI Field Examination with one of our local approved Field Examiners.
Benefits of the courseStudents who complete this training and pass the requisite written and field exams can receive both the BPI Building Analyst Certification AND the RESNET Diagnostic HESP Certification at the same time. The course objective is to provide you with a detailed understanding of how to perform a thorough building analysis including work scope recommendations along with the credentials to qualify your clients for a variety of incentive programs.
